ABOUT AARON ROSS

Aaron burst onto the scene in 2007 with his debut album "Butterfly Man" which varied from soulful folk and blues to latin grooves. He began his live career that summer, being recognized as the "Golden Voice of the Edinburgh Fringe". The music video for the single "When the Night" reached #6 on MuchMoreMusic, and was also used in an episode of 90210. The song "Delivered" featuring Vancouver artist Frazey Ford was recognized as "Best Roots Song" at the JPF Awards, the worlds largest Grassroots Music Organization. The song Daylight was featured in the well-known Mountain Biking video "Life Cycles" and the song "As the Sun Goes Down" was featured in an episode of Canadian Television show "Heartland". During this time he assembled a band called "The Boom Booms" and they developed a loyal fanbase on the west coast for their energetic live shows. They released the album "Hot Rum" in 2010, which was largely written and inspired by tours through Latin-America. Feeding off the success of this album, they competed and won second place in the Peak Performance Project, a Vancouver-based band competition, winning $75,000 and lots of exposure as well as radio play for their lead single "Lonely". This album helped grow their fan base around Canada and the added exposure lead to many festival gigs where they cemented their spot as a go-to BC dance band. During this time they also hosted a legendary annual Block Party in their alley, featuring local bands and raising money for projects they were allied with in their home of East Vancouver as well as abroad in Kampala and Nairobi. Building on their involvement with BC based environmental activism, in 2012 they went to Brazil to create a documentary film covering the struggle of Amazonian Indigenous Tribes against the threat of displacement by dam projects. They collaborated ted with members of the Kayapo tribe, as well as NGOs Amazon Watch and Gota de Agua. The film aimed to be accessible to youth, using a Reality TV style format following a travelling band who was then exposed to serious issues and compelled to become involved on a deeper level. It's called "Boom Boom Brazil" and premiered at Miami Film Fest. After a 5 song EP entitled "Make Dat Do Dat", The Boom Booms decided to work with Grammy-winning producer Chin Injeti on an album they dubbed "Love is Overdue" which saw them tilt more toward Funk & Soul. By this time the Block Party had outgrown the alley so they created an entire festival called "East Van Summer Jam" where they booked a diverse cast of local and international talent including The Rascalz, Kelela, BJ the Chicago Kid, and Ab-Soul. Along the way they played sets for huge crowds at most of the major BC festivals such as Squamish Live, Pemberton, Salmon Arm Roots & Blues, Vancouver Jazz Fest, Skookum etc. as well as features out east at Toronto Jazz Fest. They also sold out some of Vancouver's premiere live venues such as The Commodore multiple times and The Vogue, where in 2017 they released their album "Million Miles" which Aaron co-produced with Sam Woywitka. With the industry-flattening advent of the Covid Pandemic, the bands performing and rehearsing schedule dropped to the floor and Aaron took the opportunity to pivot and pour his energy into self-producing a solo-project. The batch of songs he created builds on The Boom Booms established style, while bringing it a new element of electronic production. Now with shows opening up again, fans are eager to hear the new music and see the new live show.
